Jerard F. Kehoe, Ph.D., President, Selection & Assessment Consulting

Dr. Kehoe received his doctorate in Quantitative Psychology in 1975 from the University of Southern California. He joined AT&T in 1982 where he had responsibility for selection programs in manufacturing, warehouse operations, customer service, sales, technical, and management jobs. Beginning in 1996, Jerry assumed overall leadership and direction for AT&T's selection and assessment function, including its Management/Leadership Assessment Center, and in 1999 assumed the additional responsibility for AT&T's Corporate Diversity strategy and EEO/AA programs. Jerry left AT&T in 2003 in order to establish Selection & Assessment Consulting (SAC), which helps organizations design and implement effective and defensible assessment procedures used for a variety of HR programs and systems including hiring, placement, promotion, performance assessment and feedback, high potential assessment, succession planning and management/leadership competency models.

In his 28+ years of experience working with organizations, Dr. Kehoe has developed, validated and maintained employee/applicant assessment procedures for large and small organizations ranging from Fortune 50 high-tech firms, to manufacturing and warehouse operations to small call centers. These HR solutions have been applied across a wide spectrum of jobs including manufacturing production/assembly, inspection, and machine operations, warehouse material handling work, call center customer service and sales work, account executive work, technical service and support work, and management and leadership. Based on his extensive experience working in organizations, Dr. Kehoe designs assessment solutions that fit with the business strategy and organization culture.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kehoe has been professionally active in the field of industrial-organizational psychology. He has numerous papers, book chapters and presentations relating to the development, maintenance and defense of selection programs and individual assessment topics, especially employment selection topics including computerized testing, fairness, and test validity. He is well-known nationally for this work. In 2000, he edited the Society of Industrial/Organization Psychology's (SIOP) Professional Practice Series volume, Managing Selection in Changing Organizations: Human Resource Strategies. From 2002-2005, he served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology, the only non-academic ever to do so. He also has served on numerous professional committees including in 2001-2003 the SIOP subcommittee that revised that Society's Principles for the Validation and Use of Employment Selection Procedures. In 2002, SIOP awarded Jerry with the Fellow membership status for his contributions to this profession. Jerry also served on the Key Contacts Advisory Committee for the Department of Labor's National Skills Standards Board from 2000-2003 and has served on the Equal Employment Advisory Council's Employment Selection Committee. He currently is serving on the American Psychological Association's Committee on Psychological Tests and Assessments. In addition, Jerry has taught in several international executive programs on HR strategy and individual assessment in Taiwan and Singapore.

Nancy A. Martin, Ph.D.

Dr. Nancy A. Martin has taught Psychological Assessment, Cognitive Psychology, and Developmental Psychology at the University of California, Davis, and Developmental Psychology at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at Dominican University, San Rafael, CA, in the departments of Psychology and Biology, where she taught Neuroanatomy, Physiological Psychology, Learning and Cognition, Statistics, and Research Writing. Her research at the University of California, Davis, CA, documented the latent effects of prenatal drug exposure on children's cognitive development (problem solving) and brain function (as measured by evoked response potentials). Dr. Jones has provided test interpretation workshops for school psychologists, educational specialists and teachers and has also provided parent workshops exploring child behavior in relation to brain development.

Dr. Martin's background includes training in clinical neuropsychology (UCSF Alzheimer and Memory Clinic), cognitive development (infancy though geriatrics), electrophysiology ("brainwaves"), psychometrics, and statistics (University of California-Davis); as well as research experience in neurophysiology (Stanford University Medical Center Neuropathology and University of Maryland Medical School Neuropathology labs). She is an active member of the Association of Test Publishers (served as Secretary, 2011, and then Chair, 2012), of the clinical division, abstract reviewer for Innovations in Testing annual conferences, and participated in an industry advisory panel to APA providing input that was adopted in the most recent revision of the AERA/APA/NCME Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. She is currently a member of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society and has presented her research at meetings of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Martin currently serves as an Assessment Program Manager in the Assessment Standards Development Services (ASDS) program at WestEd. Prior to joining WestEd, she served as Director of Test Development for Academic Therapy Publications for 12 years. Dr. Jones has worked with a number of prestigious clinicians to design or revise clinical diagnostic assessments used by professionals in the fields of speech-language pathology, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, school psychology, physical rehabilitation, and clinical psychology. Dr. Martin is co-author of the Quick Neurological Screening Test-II and has provided normative and statistical assistance for Learning Efficiency Test-II, Webster Pre-Kindergarten Screen, Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test-3rd Edition, Spadafore ADHD Rating Scale, Figurative Language Interpretation Test, Motor-Free Visual Perception Test-Revised, and Motor-Free Visual Perception Test-Vertical, among others. The tests designed and revised by Dr. Martin are currently used to detect cognitive, perceptual, physical, and neurological disabilities in persons ranging in age from infants and toddlers through adults and geriatric patients.

LeAdelle Phelps, Ph.D.

SUNY at Buffalo, Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology, Graduate School of Education

Dr. LeAdelle Phelps is the current Chair of the University at Buffalo Presidential Review Board, the nine-member committee that reviews all tenure and/or promotion dossiers throughout the university. Previously, she was Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Phelps is a Fellow of APA Division 16 (School Psychology) and has published more than 90 journal articles and book chapters on such diverse health-related topics as eating disorders, prenatal alcohol and cocaine exposure, and lead poisoning. She authored the Phelps Kindergarten Readiness Scale, a nationally standardized assessment tool evaluating learning readiness aptitudes predictive of later school achievement (1991, 1997, 2003, and 2012; the latest restandardization matched the 2010 US Census data). Her books include Health-related Disorders in Children and Adolescents: A Guidebook for Understanding and Educating (APA Books, 1998), the co-authored Pediatric Psychopharmacology: Combining Medical and Psychosocial Interventions (APA Books, 2002), and Chronic Health-related Disorders in Children (APA Books, 2006). She has been identified as one of the top 20 researchers in the field of school psychology (Roberts et al., 2006). She was Editor of Psychology in the Schools from 1999-2006.

National leadership roles include Associate Chair of the APA Committee on Accreditation (2006), member of COA 2002-2006, chairing the Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs (CDSPP), chairing the APA Division 16's Task Force on Training Standards in School Psychology, serving as a liaison to the APA Board of Educational Affairs, and being a member of the APA Council of Chairs of Training Councils. In 2006, she received the APA Division 16 Jack Bardon Distinguished Service Award and in 2007 the SUNY Chancellor's Distinguished Service Award. She was the recipient of the Trainers of School Psychologists Award for Outstanding Contributions to Service in 2010.

Fred A. Mael, Ph.D.

Dr. Fred Mael, Ph.D. has worked as an organizational consultant for 25 years, doing consulting, facilitation, research, and project management in areas such as organizational culture, employee and customer loyalty, organizational surveys, best practices studies, and development of performance management systems. He worked for the US Army as a researcher/manager for 8 years and has worked as a consultant to government, non-profit and commercial organizations for over 15 years, first as a member of a Washington, DC consulting firm and then as a sole practitioner. In this capacity he has consulted to numerous organizations including the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, U.S. Marshals Service, Space Telescope Science Institute, Schering-Plough, DARPA, CDC, FAA, Department of Education, BLS, NIH-CC, NIDA, and SSA, as well as small businesses.

He has also worked as a work/executive coach since 2002, coaching a full range of professional managers and executive leaders in both the private and public sectors. Coaching clients in the US government include managers who were/are members of NIH Clinical Center (NIH-CC), NICHD, GSA, and FCC. In addition, he has coached senior managers in such private sector organizations as AIG, Standard and Poors, Under Armor, KPMG, AOL, and Northrop-Grumman. This coaching has focused on such areas as career progression, management of relationships with superiors and subordinates, goal achievement and priority setting, gaining resources and influence to further one's departmental work, and work-life balance.

Representative consulting projects include:

• Co-led effort to increase retention of Army junior officers through interventions such as leadership training, multi-source feedback, coaching, incentives, and family focus.
• Performed extensive interviews with former Army officers and their spouses regarding the positives and difficulties of their transition into civilian life, and co-produced a video widely used by senior Army officers in counseling junior officers.
• Performed a training needs analysis and survey of organizational culture for the leadership of a scientific laboratory of astronomers and physicists. Also provided solutions for friction between scientists and IT staff.
• Performed benchmarking study of 30 organizations regarding deployment of internal HR staff and use of outsourcing for HR functions.
• Advised a medical clinic on maintaining a new culture devoted to patient-centered care in the face of staff turnover and other stresses.
• Led effort to develop performance measures and examine the culture-performance relationship among substance abuse treatment professionals.
• Developed biographical selection measures to predict performance, leadership potential and retention for military and law enforcement positions.
• Led an exit survey study for a professional organization concerned with retention
• Performed a study of corporate best practices in 360-degree feedback and professional development and advised clients on reenergizing their programs.

Dr. Mael is the author of over eighty book chapters, journal articles, and conference presentations on topics such as loyalty, leadership, workforce selection and retention, and work unit cohesion. He has served on the editorial boards of Personnel Psychology and Career Development Quarterly, and writes a regular column for Baltimore SmartCEO and Washington SmartCEO, regional magazines for leaders of growing companies. He has been quoted in popular publications such as the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal Online, Education Week, and Athletic Monthly Magazine. In 2004 he was named a Fellow of the Society for I-O Psychology and the American Psychological Association for what was termed "programmatic and influential work" in the field. Dr. Mael has a Ph.D. in I-O Psychology from Wayne State University, as well as a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Loyola College of Maryland, and is a Professional Certified Coach as certified by the International Coach Federation.

Greg Nunn, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Dr. Greg Nunn is a clinical/school/research psychologist specializing in applied behavior analysis, cognitive behavioral approaches, school psychology, and instructional leadership. He received his Bachelor's degree from U.C.L.A. in 1971, where he worked as an undergraduate Research Assistant with Dr. Ivar Lovaas. He received his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 1974 with D. Nathan Azrin, his P.P.S. Credentials in both school psychology and guidance and counseling in 1999, and his Administrative Services Credential in 2005. Dr. Nunn is Board Certified as a Behavior Analyst and also certified in both Biofeedback and Neurofeedback, as both a Critical Incident Stress Management and AVID Counselor, as a Remedial Reading Specialist with the Language Curriculum by Jane Fell Greene, Sopris West, the Lindamood-Bell, LIPs Method, as a Certified Mentor for the DIBELS assessments, and the REWARDS Reading Program.

Dr. Nunn is a Certified Trainer of Trainers and Coach for the Girls and Boys Town Specialized Classroom Management Educational Model, and for Randy Sprick's CHAMPS school-wide behavioral system. Lastly, he is also Certified as a Trainer of Trainers for Bully-proofing your Schools at both the middle and high school levels.

As a Research Associate with Dr. Nathan Azrin at Anna State Hospital (1971-1974), Dr. Nunn co-designed a general psychological treatment model (HABIT REVERSAL) that has proven effective in treating a variety of anxiety-related problems including maladaptive habits, motor and vocal tics, Tourette's Syndrome, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. His work has been published in various national and international scientific journals, as invited chapters in books, as a co-authored book, Habit Control, and presented at state, national, and international conventions including the California Association for Behavior Analysis, Association for Behavior Analysis, Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy, American Psychological Association, Midwestern Association for Behavior Analysis, American Public Health Association and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research annual conferences.

Dr. Nunn's book with Dr. Azrin, Habit Control, was selected as one of the Outstanding Books of the Year in the field of behavior therapy by Psychology Today in 1979. His work in this field continues to grow in popularity and was selected as one of the Best in Behavior Research and Therapy by the editors of The Journal of Behavioral Research and Therapy in 1997, and has been selected as the only Empirically Validated Intervention for these types of disorders. Presently, Habit Reversal has been incorporated into the Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics Program (CBIT) and is promoted by the National Tourette Syndrome Association, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, as an Evidence-based Intervention for Tourette Syndrome. Dr. Nunn was on the Board of Directors of the California Association for Behavior Analysis (CalABA) from 2004-2009, was the Co-Chair of the 2006-2007 Conference Committee, and was President in 2008-2009.

Dr. Nunn was the founder and director of the San Diego Kaiser-Permanente Positive Choice Programs from 1979 through 1983. While there, he developed and initiated a variety of behavioral medicine/health promotion services including a health risk assessment program, a smoking cessation program, stress management and biofeedback programs, and two weight control programs. Dr. Nunn's health promotion research has been presented at the annual conventions of the American Journal of Health Promotion, the California Medical Group Management Association, and the American Hospital Association Southeastern Conference, as well as the California Senate Subcommittee Hearings on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. The "Weight Control for Life!" and Lighter Living Program materials have been published as manuals and books and the results have been published in the American Journal of Health Promotion and in The Journal of Addictive Behaviors.

From 1983 through 1992 Dr. Nunn served as president of a California-based corporation that developed and provided behavioral medicine programs, associated products, and consulting services to hospitals and multi-specialty medical groups throughout the U.S. In 1992, Dr. Nunn served as interim Administrative Director of a private, non-profit counseling center where his duties included supervising Ph.D. and M.F.C.C. interns; his primary focus as director was in providing services to families in which there was domestic violence and physical/sexual abuse. He was certified as a court approved psychologist to provide treatment to children, adolescents and adults suffering from these issues.

Dr. Nunn directed the development of the Toussaint Teen Center programs and services for homeless teenagers as well as SVDP's Counseling Department in Oak Grove Institute, a Residential and Day Treatment center for children and adolescents, from1992-1999. Dr. Nunn has served as Associate Professor in the School Psychology, Teacher Education, and Educational Administration Departments at National University teaching and supervising interns. He was also the founder and director of the NU ABA Certificate Programs whose courses are approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board at both the Associate and Behavior Analyst Levels. The ABA Program is currently offered at about 18 separate Centers in California.

From 2006-2007 Dr. Nunn was Regional Director of Behavioral, Educational, and Family Services for Universal Health Services-Keystone Schools, where he supervised the implementation of the Girls and Boys Town Specialized Educational Model, as well as the Edusoft benchmarking Progress Monitoring System and the AIMS Web formative assessment system for strengthening students' mastery and fluency in reading, writing, and math.

Dr. Nunn has served as the school psychologist at Scripps Ranch High School from 2007 where he uses his expertise as an educational, school, and clinical psychologist in applying standards-based assessment, motivating staff towards currency and professional development, providing teacher feedback, handling crises, counseling with families, and designing interventions for special needs students.
